Raise HDL Naturally

Dr. William Davis Health Pro November 05, 2008

This statement in the above page makes no sense and seems to be contradictory.

Because low-fat diets reduce HDL (and raise triglycerides), I advocate a diet approach that involves the elimination of foods made with wheat or cornstarch, as well as reduction or elimination of junk foods.

And from my experience it totally works to increase HDL and decrease triglycerides and LDL.

HDL is your good whereas LDL is your bad. This article is saying (in my opinion) that you need to reduce the bad fats in your diet. It's a good thing to eat the right fats like olive oil, avacadoes etc. I am not a Dr. but this is the way I live my life from his teaching as I have genetically pre-dispossitioned high tri-glycerides as well as a very low HDL....

Mine is running around 40 right now which sounds bad but is almost doubled since starting to follow his advice. I don't think the article is contradictaory as this is a little complex until you become more educated on the subject. Thanks!

One evening, I was up all night, every hour, urinating. It seemed like just when I got into bed I could feel my bladder filling back up. That lasted for two days.

I also noticed that my feet would have some edema in the evenings.

All this went away when I stopped working with this company.

Even after 45 days of being detatched from this company, I had a BMP an my glucose was a little hight, as well as my BUN/Creat ratio. Could this be from dehydration?

I started Vitamin D and loaded it at 30k per day for 10 days and then backed off to 10k every other day. Also started drinking cocoa in the morning coffee with non dairy creamer and taking cinnamon up to a tsp a day with yogurt. This lead to excessively thin blood because of also taking Plavix. Too many blood thinners, so cut back the cinnamon to 1/2 tsp and eliminated aspirin altogether.

The April numbers are unreal. 64 HDL, 33 Triglycerides and 34 LDL. Switched from 20 mg lipitor to 20 mg zocor and will check it again this July.

Vitamin D was likely the key with a little help from the cocoa...just a guess. Thank you very much for the information provided on this site!

My doctor said I could go on medication but I did not really want to do that as I was told it would mean I would be on medication for the rest of my life - and I don't really like the idea of drugs and the side effects etc...

I decided instead to try alternative and far more healthy options - including a slight change in my diet (less fatty things, cheeses etc- I love cheeses!! , increased exercise (except I don't do gym's) and I also looked at supplements etc that could help.

I had to make some key changes.

I needed to focus on drinking more water - it is good for you with no side effects.

As mentioned - I consume less cheese and have reduced other "fatty foods" too

I am doing more exercise - still not going to the gym but I will walk wherever possible rather than driving etc, take the stairs instead of the lift and just really make an effort to play sports etc

I have found some very good supplements - I did a body detox using the natural supplement Ayurtox and now take a supplement called AyurGold. Both are herbal supplements that helps to bring back a natural balance - basically to clean and then maintain my body as it is too hard to get a new one!

Being diagnosed with high cholesterol was a shock as I thought I was healthy, but at least it shocked me into action and I now feel 100% better which I am happy about.

It did prompt me to research and then start my own blog to share the things I found out about my own conditions and generally my passion for Good Health and Wellbeing - not an expert but a better informed person now.

I just knew that is what happened

And I certainly don't want to jeopardize my existing good health

I certainly do not want to go onto medication for this issue.

    As suggested by my Doctor.

The two major types of cholesterol are HDL and LDL cholesterol, or high-density lipoprotein (HDL) and low-density lipoprotein (LDL).

Only a handful of publications have focused specifically on the definition of health and its evolution in the first 6 decades. Some of them highlight its lack of operational value and the problem created by use of the word "complete." Others declare the definition, which has not been modified since 1948, "simply a bad one

The weights are nice and promote health in various ways, but the cardio is the part that will help more with the cholesterol levels. So they recommend minimum 20 mins of cardio, but better 40. Low intensity works about as well as high for this purpose.

    Hi,

I'm 38. I've been taking alcohol for more than 12 years heavily. i tried to stop it gradually, but couldn't. I'm on aspirin 50 mg and atenlol 50 mg for the past 8 years. is it ok if I stop alcohol suddenly?

I think it could cause some undesired and possibly serious problems stopping suddenly. Would advise that you do so under a doctor's supervision, as they can provide meds that can help facilitate the process and guard against the dangers. Hope this helps.

After changing my diet to include more fat and protein and many fewer carbs and eliminating grains my HDL improved from 69 to 74 and my LDL went from 139 to 105 in two months. So, I am now wondering what you recommend to lower LDL down to the target of 60?
