I came across an interesting video interview of Dr. Lundell who performed over 5,000 open heart surgeries and wrote the book, "Cure for Heart Disease" and he indicated that the cause is not necessarily cholestoral... but inflimation.

I can relate to your story.  I had a stroke at age 36 (in 2006) and I was perfectly healthy, and I was on the Ortho Evra Patch.  I, like you, made it to the hospital and was diagnosed within 3 hours, so received the benefit of the tPa, clot-busting medication.  I wanted to comment that when I was in the emergency room, I was able to speak to the head neurologist via a two-way TV that was placed at the end of my bed when they suspected stroke.  We spoke and I was appropriately diagnosed thanks to this technology.
