Getting Insurance After A Heart Attack.

By DiRTy30 Tuesday, May 05, 2009

Hopefully someone here can help.

I am a 37 year old male who owns a company.  I had a heart attack at 36, and didn't have health insurance through myself or my company.  I was in the process of trying to set up a group plan.

To get to the point, I am still able to set up a group plan for my company which will also cover me...however I have to wait over 12 months for any insurance to cover a pre-existing condition that is related to my heart.

Bottom line is this...I am lucky enough to pay for all medications, Cardio / Dr Visits...however I'm stressing out of having an issue arrise that will put me back in the hospital with no coverage again...having to foot a $30k bill after negotions.

Last, on my recent visit to my Cardioligist...they are saying that I have to do my 1st stress test which is for the year anniversary...This is the part that worries me most as to the fact of "IF" I need more stents, etc...I will have make a decision to foot the bill myself, or not do the stress test altogether so it's not on my mind...which isn't a wise idea.

So, has anyone been able to find an insurance carrier that will take on high risk clients? Or a group plan that covers all pre-existing conditions?

I am burning through all resources and getting nowhere on my own.

Thanks for the help or suggestions!

Chris.

There are many LIMITED coverage insurance companies who will cover you.  Do not buy a discount policy.  I have Homeland HealthCare 1-800-493-4240 and Secure Advantage 2000 with United Service Associates 1-800-952-4320.  Haven't had these policies long but Homeland is great for generic medications.  I had breast cancer surgery last year and fortunately still had Aetna COBRA but it has expired.  I am now working on getting a doctor visit paid. Good luck and stay healthy.

When you say limited coverage, are you stating that they will not cover pre-existing conditions, or simply limited on certain medications, etc?  I will call for sure for more details.

Thank you for your response.
