Dear Christine, I have been hospitilzed twice with A-Fib. They know how to treat it here very well and quickly. They give iv's of meds and if you don't get into normal sinus rythum in two days they quickly use a heart sapper that brings you back to normal rythum. Can't remember what it's called at the moment. but they give you a charge like you see on tv. You are sedated at the time, so you are not freightened. They never had to do it to me as I always revert with meds. I am also on Digoxin , one daily. This has done very well for me.

What symtons do you have and how are they disabling? I would like to know how you are doing.

tHANK YOU FOR YOUR COMMENTS and corncern. They call it a Cardioversion to zapp the heart!! i have had it done 5 times and tryed loads of drugs with no cure, still in Chronic AFib, hada aAblation done 3 years ago and still its came back. Went to see my Heart man yesterday and he said they are running out of options. I can't stand drugs and get lots of side affects. Still i battle on and try and lead a normal life, but now that seems further away than ever. Christine

Dear Christine, I'm so sorry that you can't find a solution to your heart problem. Have you ever tried Digoxin? I don't think I have any side effects from it. Now I don't feel great all the time, but don't really know what is causing it. You see, I have rheumatoid arthritis,  high bp, and diabetes too. So I am on lots of meds. I will be posting them on my profile. I just registered yesterday, so I haven't done that yet. My name is Evelyn. The reason I signed Anonymos is I can't get the username and password together. All this pc stuff drives me nuts. But I love having a link to people with the same illnesses and problems. I'm glad to hear that your outlook is good. I really did think that the ablation would fix it.I always thought if I were bothered chronically, I would have it done. Guess it doesn't always work though??????

Thank you for writing, I look forward to hearing fron you again.

    Hi Evelyn

Thanks for your reply, yes i did try that drug!! made me sick all the time. My Consultant going to try me on Flecanide to try and help control the AF I had a very bad reaction to it many years ago so they will be keeping an eye on me. I breed and show dogs and have 2 jobs so i need to keep well!! to busy to be ill. Sorry to hear you have various problems, hope Digoxin continues to make you feel well. Take care and i will keep intouch to let you know the outcome of my nusiance problem. Christine

Have you considered a Cox-Maze III procedure. It is an open heart procedure used to cut the pathways that cause Afib. Mark Gillanov at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation is one of the best in the world

My consultant wont do it on my heart...to complex and dangerous, had open heart surgery when i was younger for a hole in the heart, so they wont disrupt that part of the heart. Thanks for that. Christine

considering your misery it would be worth the consideration. It sounds like you had an ASD when you were younger. Redo heart surgery today at the CCF has a very low mortality and the Cox-Maze is complex but not impossible.

Yes it was a ASD when i was 30 so they won't even go there to dangerous. The Drs havent got a clue in UK-keep putting you on drugs..Cardioversions. They are now going to try me on Flecainide

I had a very bad reaction to that many years ago...but they say i was in Flutter not Fib...then they are going to shock me again. Im beginning to think nothing will work, maybe best just to leave me on Warfin and thats it!!im 52 yrs of age..very active even though i live with this chronic condition. Thanks for your support.

Living with it? This does involve a lifetime of blood thinning drugs and extreme tiredness. My husband has to date had over 14 procedures to fix his AF at what point do you give up? Will he have to live with this forever? Is there life in living with this condition and how do I help him feel better.

I have a-fib also, found something on the net today about a new prodecure called cyrocath-artic front. I watched the whole prodecure on the net today, seems  to be something brand new. Maybe you should take a look.
