    The problem with this study is that they lumped red meat along with processed meat like cold cuts and sausage, including chicken sausage, and then trumpeted the fact that it's red meat that causes the problems. Maybe it's the nitrates in the processed meats.

     

    They could just as easily have said "chicken shortens your life" because chicken sausage was in the "bad" group.

     

    This is sloppy science.
