stress test

By shawn Tuesday, January 08, 2008

I am a 40 year old male. In general I am in good health. my bp is 120over 70, my total cholesterol is 177 and my tryglicerides are 119.I workout 3 times a week and I have an athletic build.

I recently have been experiencing chest pain. So I went to my gp he did an ekg and some blood work all came up good. He thinks it is related to tendonitius or gerd. But to be on the dsafe side he ordered a nuclear stress test with a ecg.

A cardiologist from the clinic got in touch with me and claimed that part of my heart was not getting enough blood, and there was a slight chance of a minor blockage. He suggested a catheter to check things out.

Immediatley following our conversation the head cardiologist from the clinic called my gp and claimed he reviewed the tapes and I have a perfectly healthy heart and blood flo.

I completed the stress test with no problem, In fact the tech said I was in very good shape. I am stressed out over this, should I get a 3rd opinion or just go with the head cardiologists conclusion?

Recurrent cardiac chest pain/angina is most often associated with exertion.  If you are capable of exercise without chest pain, and are experiencing pains randomly (not associated with physical or emotional stress) then it is most likely not originating from your heart.  Assuming your EKG, stress test, and physical are normal I would not worry.  When you say a cardiologist at the clinic read as a possible area of ischemia, was it a fellow or an attending?  In other words was the discrepancy between head Dr.'s or head Dr. and student, which in that case I would go with the attending.  In the end it is better to be safe than sorry.  If your stressed about it go get another one done.

Thanks for the reply....

As a precaution I had another stress test done and reviewed by a different Doctor. Everything turnes out good. He thinks the pains are muscle related.
