Still have lots of pain some days

By Liz Monday, December 03, 2007

Hi there, I'm a 53 year old female that had a double heart by-pass done on Oct. 1, 20007. I've had the tradition surgery done were my sternum was cut open. I've still got a lot of pain in my arms ,neck , chest area, have had some angina again so will be going for stress test this week. Not regarding the angina, is this pain normal for 8 weeks after surgery.

thanks, I'm sure it is, but this has all been a lot to deal with

Liz

Dear Katerine

Thanks for the reply, this web site is awesome.  Except my comp. is so old that it takes me a very long time to navigater around.  Im going for the stress test on Frid, had a chest x-ray yesterday, no results yet. so we'll see.  Im taking it one day at a time.

Thanks again

... is not normal, especially not chest pain.

Moreover, pain that continues 8 weeks out from bypass surgery is not typical either.  Would suggest you keep both your cardiologist and primary care doctor updated about the continued pain.  If they do not help you with the pain, it would be wise for you to seek a second opinion about it.

thank you for you  comment.  I now realise that every one heals in a different way.  I believe my sternum is now on its way to mending much better.  When for a stress test the other day, cause I'm still having some angina ,like I was before. it was positive for changes so we'll take it from there and see what my cardio. suggests we do now.  Thank you again for your comment.

You are welcome, Liz :-)

Your still having angina would mean that the outcome of your surgery was less than optimal.

Typically, we refer for EECP those, who like you, are still having angina after bypass surgery because of side-branch (small vessel) disease and are candidates for it (no AAA, aortic insufficiency, or severe PVD).

Disclosure: Have no contractual financial ties with either providers of EECP or the makes of EECP equipment.
