A dear family member had bypass (4/beating heart) surgery on
Feb 28, 2006. She is still taking isosorbide mononitrate and
lasix.
Other friends who experienced the same thing do not have to
take nitrates. ?? Should she get a second opinion or is this
not unusual?
Any help is definitely appreciated.

Thanks so very much for posting this question.
I'm a new moderator for this site and although not medically trained, I am able to search our site for information to answer questions as well as lend an ear and maybe, on good days, make someone smile.
As for your question regarding nitrates, of course your family member must discuss this with her doctor - maybe even again and again. Patients should always feel well informed and satisfied with the information they have about their treatment. I suggest she go back and speak to her physician again and see that she exhausts all her doubt.
In the meantime, I was able to find information on our site about nitrates. It discusses the uses, side effects, and other points about this drug. Maybe this information will help you to help her.
Please let us know how she is fairing.
All the best, sue
