Patricia G. Shannon, a native Washingtonian, is a married mother of two. She currently serves as the Director of Community Relations for the Sister to Sister Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to preventing heart disease in women.
Ms. Shannon has had an illustrious career in both public service and banking. Prior to becoming President and CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Washington, she was a Senior Vice President at NationsBank, now Bank of America. Foremost among her banking responsibilities was leading initiatives to enhance access to credit for small, minority, and women-owned businesses, nonprofits, and low-to-moderate income individuals.
Prior to banking, Ms. Shannon served as Director of Field Services Operations for a $30 million nonprofit social services agency. She served a one-year appointment as an H.E.W. Fellow, and taught science in public schools in Washington, D.C., and Fayetteville, N.C.
Throughout her career, she has been active in a wide variety of civic and professional organizations and has served on numerous boards including the D.C. Chamber of Commerce, the Greater Washington Urban League, the Howard University Hospital, Girl Scouts of the National Capital, and the Rotary Club of Washington, D.C., of the Greater Washington Society of Association Executives, and the Hospital for Sick Children Foundation. Pat currently serves as a director of Adams National Bank, and on the Kennedy Center's Community Advisory Board.
Among Ms. Shannon's many awards are the Greater Washington Whitney M. Young Memorial Award - 1994 and 2005, D.C. Chamber of Commerce Distinguished Service Award, Washington Urban Bankers Association's "Banker of the Year - 1991", Howard University Small Business Development Center's "Alumni Entrepreneurs Award", D.C. City Council Resolution for Outstanding Community Service, the Boys & Girls Clubs of America Southeast Region 1997 Rookie of the Year Award, Executive of the Year S.E. Region, Boys & Girls Clubs of America 2002, National Executive of the Year, Boys & Girls Clubs of America 2003, Boys & Girls Clubs of America SE Region Herman Prescott Award 2005, Boys & Girls Clubs of America National Herman Prescott Award 2005.
As President and CEO of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Washington, she presided over a $14 million regional youth organization with 26 clubs and a 168-acre camp serving 35,000 youth a year. Under her leadership, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Washington doubled in size and became the largest affiliate of Boys & Girls Clubs of America. She retired from this position in April 2005 and remains involved in projects assisting nonprofits.
