Early Detection of heart disease
Anonymous
Friday, June 13, 2008 at 06:43 PMDon't you think it would be valuable for healthcentral to have an article about the only technology to detect heart disease early?--EBCT. If he had a heartscan, a simple noninvasive test, he would have been on medicines that would have lowered his risk. To have a section on warning signs won't help people like Tim---chest pain is not the usual situation. It is sudden disruption of plaque

Saturday, June 14, 2008 at 12:53 PMJust to piggyback on your comments, Dr. Ehrlich, don't you think that with his documented CAD he should have had two antiplatelets on board to keep his blood flowing in case of said plaque ruptures...?
So tragic... maybe his doctor (Dr Newman??) did indeed have him on ASA or Plavix or both? We may never know? Sundays will never be the same...

More info on Tims exploding plaque?
Michelle
Sunday, June 15, 2008 at 09:37 AMMy husband had a heart attack on April 1, with no warning signs at all, no high blood pressure, no high cholesterol, recently had a medical checkup and no signs. The cardiologist says my husband's risk would not have been detected by a stress test either, and it won't in the future either. We are very curious to know if he knew he had this risk and was taking plavix or if he died from the first indication the heart attack. We know there is still high risk that my husband will have more exploding plaque, we hope the medicine, diet and exercise will keep the risk lower as we have a 9 and 11 year old boys to raise.
My husband is from Buffalo and we watched Tim EVERY Sunday morning. Rest In Peace, Tim

Sunday, June 15, 2008 at 12:37 PMSunday mornings were Tim Russert mornings - this is where I believe I got the facts politically - honestly and with great depth.
The panel did amazingly well while I had tears in my eyes listening to many stories about Tim and what his life was all about - all I knew was that I felt strongly - Meet the Press with Tim Russert had the true facts.
He was blessed to have had the time with his family in Italy prior to his passing - he was a giant in the media business covering all facets of political and government activities.
He will be sorely missed - his passing was a shock - taken to our Lord much too early in life.
Thank you for allowing those outside his world to show our grief and condolences to his family - what a legacy he has left.

A man for all people

Sunday, June 15, 2008 at 01:14 PMTim Russert was a person most of us would like to be. He had a big heart; he gave of himself; he fought for justice; lived his Roman Catholic faith; valued God, his family and faith. Plus, he had a career that was difficult to stay "open minded" in. He did it...what a wonderful person...what a statement and impact he made on so many.
My prayers and loving thoughts go out to his family...know that Tim Russert made the world a better place and his memory will live on in so my people's heart.
God bless you and comfort you during this time. Fortunately, you will all meet some day in heaven and once again be together.

A friend to all even if we never met him personally

Monday, June 16, 2008 at 10:03 PMIt is with great sorrow to see someone who was so genuine to leave us knowing his great wisdom and his love for everyone and his country. A person like Tim is one we would hope would live forever. I heard his son this morning with Matt Lauer (?) and the love between father and son was one that I will never forget. Tim was just so proud of his son and it was amazing to hear Matt even say that no conversation was ever had that Tim did not mention his boy. We are just so happy he was able to attend the graduation at Boston College and to let his son know just how proud he was of him. It's a trying time for the family but just think of how many children never really know what their parents think of them. At least Tim was not afraid to express his love for the boy. He is truly an angel in Heaven now and will be missed tremendously here on Earth. I feel grateful that I am able to express my opinion regarding such a great man. To think his Dad is still living and he has to bury his own son;
that 's something no parent wants to do. At least Tim was able to put his Dad in a new facility and perhaps that was a premenition of what was to come. It's sad but we feel fortunate enough to have been able to listen to his views and be able to enjoy his wonderful sense of humor. To his family, we say "you were so lucky to have had him both as a husband and a father". Take care and our condolences go out to you. The Busold Family of Latham, New York

Tim Russert and Heart Disease Prevention
jeffrey dach md
Tuesday, July 01, 2008 at 08:59 AMTwo beloved American celebrities have succumbed to heart disease before their time. The national response has been disappointment in a medical system that could allow this to happen. What could have been done differently to save the lives of both Tim and George, to avoid this fatal outcome?
