Heart or thyroid?

By Myth Thursday, April 05, 2007
When my thyroid was out of whack, my heart did some funky things and I was quite worried. I had a whole bunch of tests done back then and heart was fine. I am on synthroid now and last I checked a month ago, my levels were fine. Now I am getting periods of shortness of breath, far worse when I lie down. Sometimes I wake up suddenly at night unable get air. Some dizziness and vertigo. I am extremely tired, extremely. I have gained weight, mostly in my abdomen. When I eat it makes me fee sick. I get chest pains, usually brief piercing pain. Sometimes it is more spead out pain, more restrictive. I can feel my heart, like there is extra pressure there and my heart beats can be eratic. So how can you tell the difference between heart problems and thyroid caused symptoms?

I don't think I have had a heart attack.  Certainly shortness of breath when I am lying down and piercing chest pain which can be bad or mild.  And an overall weakness.  My doctor took me off a migraine medication called Imitrex, because it was making these symptoms worse.  And she said to go to the er when I get them again, but I think she means if they get bad.  I am not sure, but I don't think a heart attack usually comes with these symptoms so far in advance.  If they do, then I will have to watch it.  I really have no idea what is going on.  I will see may doctor on tuesday, but it would have relieved my worry if I had seen her the same day.
