I found this article to be very well thought out, but I wish it had included information about cardiac rehabilitation programs. After may heart surgery-10 years ago-I found it very helpful to attend cardiac rehabilion activities. The program I attended  offered classes on diet, heart medication, stress relief, etc., and gave me a chance to meet with other heart patients who were going through the recovery process at the same time I was. I also got to spend time with people who had heart surgery up to 20 years earlier than I had it. Talking with those patients made me feel that if they could survive that long, so could I!

Hi Pam, I had open heart surgery in 2009. I have been having what started out as surface scar tissue pain. It has gotten worse and now feels like pain on right side under right breast close to where rib cage would have been reconnected. Anyone have any thing similar to this? N

Hi-I'm really sorry that you are having so many problems with pain. I haven't experienced the same problem, but I understand how hard it is to deal with chronic pain. I've had to take medication to deal with diabetic neuropathy pain for 15 years. Even with the medication, the pain is never entirely gone.   I hope you find a treatment that works for you. Good luck, and keep me informed. I may be a little slow answering you-I've recently had a pacemaker implanted, and can't do cardiac rehab or much of anything else for awhile.   Pam
