9 Summer Activities to Get You and Your Family Moving

    I love summer — vacations, sunshine, and time spent outdoors — and, there's no better time to get active as a family. 


    There are so many things that you can do, which will make working out fun and enjoyable for your whole family. 


    Here are 9 summertime activities you could enjoy as a family:


    1. Walking

    You could take walks together every day, such as to the park, or just walk around your local area. Try to pick a different location each day for your outing. Your whole family will enjoy the change of scenery, and you may even have the opportunity to learn new things about the local area as you go.

    2. Hiking

    This is a little more strenuous than taking a leisurely walk, but it can be so much fun. Most towns and cities have nature trails, where you can take your family on an all day hike. Hiking is not only a great way to get into shape, but it can be educational as well. Perhaps you could go bird watching, or see how many of the plants and flower you can identify, as you hike along the trail.


    3. Bicycling

    You could bike around town, or follow one of the designated bike tracks in your area. Just make sure everyone is equipped with the proper safety equipment, such as helmets and knee pads. 


    4. Lawn Games

    How about setting up a badminton, or volleyball net in the back yard, or perhaps playing some cricket or rounders? Lawn games are a great way for everyone to get some exercise, and have fun at the same time. You could even combine it with a family barbecue, and make it a whole-day event. 


    5. Frisbee

    Going to the park to play a game of Frisbee is so much fun. And, it's a really good way to get your blood pumping and everyone moving. If you want to include the whole group, try making up fun games, such as Frisbee football, or Frisbee tag. 


    6. Swimming

    Swimming is one of the most popular summertime activities, and a great way to get some exercise. Why not join the local swimming pool, or take your kids to a water park once a week?


    7. Plant a vegetable garden

    You may not think of gardening as exercise, but it can definitely count towards your daily exercise requirements. Your whole family can be involved in the project, planting and tending to the garden. It will teach them responsibility, and how to be self-sufficient, and growing your own fruits and vegetables is also healthier and cheaper than buying produce from the store.


    So, we've touched on a few summertime activities for the whole family. But, what about those times when you just want to get away and spend some time by yourself? 


    Here are a couple of suggestions:

    8. Water aerobics

    Water is the perfect place to exercise, providing a great workout, without putting stress on your joints. You could join a water aerobics class, or just workout by yourself at the swimming pool. A few exercises you can do in the water include lunges, squats, jogging the perimeter of the pool, leg lifts, etc. 


    9. Jogging

    Jogging is a good solitary exercise, which can help relieve stress, and make you feel fitter and stronger both mentally and physically. So, why not fire up your Mp3 player to help you get into the zone, and give it a go this summer?
