You may have had good intentions to lose a few pounds before summer, but if you didn't quite succeed, don't let that put you off.
Summer is the perfect time to start on your weight loss journey, because it's a little easier to be active during the summer months, and there are so many fun things to do at this time of year.
So, here are seven things to help you lose weight and enjoy the summer weather:
1. Eat fresh produce
The best tip I can give you to lose weight this summer, is to make fresh produce a large portion of your diet. When you do that, you will lose weight.
Delicious fresh produce from the farmer’s market, or even your own garden, is readily available. If you're fortunate enough to grow your own fruits and vegetables, you'll know how delicious they are, and how completely different they taste from the produce you buy at the grocery store.
Even if you don't grow your own produce, you can still take advantage of the seasonal foods available. Try making salads using a selection of these seasonal fruits and vegetables, or try barbecued fruits and vegetables, for a different taste and texture.
2. Go outside
Now that it is warm outside, make it your endeavour to go out and enjoy the weather.
Summer is the perfect time to start walking or jogging everyday, however if it's hot were you live, go walking early in the morning, or late in the evening. Or, why not get together with friends and family, to make it even more fun?
Check out my recent article on some of the fun family activities you can enjoy together, if you need a little more inspiration.
3. Take up a team sport
If you are the athletic type (or you would like to be!), or you simply enjoy team sports, why not join one of your local teams, such as softball, soccer, football, basketball, or the net ball team?
The great thing about joining a team is that it's more structured, and they usually have practice everyday, which means you're moving consistently — one of the keys to staying fit and healthy, and losing weight.
4. Try gardening
Gardening can be a year-long activity, but it's particularly pleasant to be out in the garden at this time of the year.
The great thing about gardening is that it serves several purposes — you get to enjoy your own freshly grown produce, you save money on your grocery bill also, you can enjoy the beautiful flowers and plants, it gives you a sense of accomplishment.
But, best of all, when you're trying to lose weight, gardening is hard work, which means it can definitely help you lose those excess pounds.
5. Go swimming
We all know that swimming is one of the best forms of exercise, but few people take the opportunity to go swimming.
I've recently been enjoying the chance to swim outdoors while on holiday, and wish I could swim like this year round! If you're fortunate enough to live in an area with an outdoor pool, and good weather to boot, why not get out there and swim a few laps in the sunshine?
