This advice from Ms. Thomassian ignores the advice given by cardiologist William Davis in his share post, in which he strongly recommends eliminating WHEAT entirely from the diet. Oats, flax seed, nuts, yes. But wheat NO! he says. Eliminating wheat, although contrary to the advice from the American Heart Association and others, makes for a healthier heart, and will advance your attempts to control weight.

    I agree!

    Dear Hard Hearted Hannah,

    Thanks for submitting a response.

Yes, the two posts do, to some degree, contradict one another.

Our site is not here to offer diagnosis or treatment plans, but to provide information about different methods of preventing, treating and managing heart disease- whether from medical experts or community members who have gone through similar experiences.

Dr. Davis takes a less medical mainstream approach to preventing and treating heart disease, whereas Melanie is more aligned with the mainstream medical community.

Posting these articles together was intended to be thought provoking, and to provide readers with information to discuss with their health care providers.

I don't believe there is a one-size-fits-all treatment or management plan, so it is important to know the different options available and to work with your doctor to find the one that is best for you.

    Thanks again,

    Katherine
