Senator Dick Durban's eldest daughter, Christine Ann Durbin, passed away on November 1, 2008 at age 40 due to complications from a congenital heart condition.
Durban's communications director released a statement saying, ""Chris was a remarkable woman who was deeply committed to her family and deeply loved in return. The Durbin family is so grateful and has been touched by the outpouring of sympathy and support from those who have sent along their prayers and good wishes."
Details on the funeral arrangements were released on Durban's Senate website yesterday. The family will hold a private service on Thursday in Maryland.

Hello,
Do you know if any information has been released on the type of congenital heart defect Christine Durbin suffered from? As a mother of a daughter with a congenital heart defect, I cannot help but wonder.
Thank you,
Michelle
Hi Michelle,
No specific information has been released on Christine's condition. From what I can gather the family is very private and wants to share minimal details publicly.
In an email communication with Dr. Davis, he hypothesized - based on her young age - that the condition most likely had someting to do with a repaired Tetalogy or Fallot, or a transposition of the great vessels. Again, no specifics are known and this is merely an educated guess.
Thank you for your response. My daughter has a repaired partial AV canal. Because it's considered rare in terms of congenital heart defects, I have not come across adults who are living with this condition - although I know that they are out there!
Hi Michelle---You read my mind, which is how I came to this site--my daughter has a CHD as well, repaired pulmonary atresia w/VSD. The news about Sen. Durbin's daughter hit very close to home, so sad.
