Dying slowly...

I am dying slowly and desperately need help. I live in a country just coming out of a long civil war and was victimized by effects of that war. I suffered from nearly non-stop heart palpitations for 5 years up to 2005 when I was diagnosed of cardiac dialation (hypertrophic cardiomyophathy???) by an Internist. I was told that the long years of palpitations have resulted into a thickened left ventricle, a condition which puts me at a risk of developing hypertention. To control the blood pressure, I have put on, and regularly taking, atenolol 50mg on a daily basis.

Medical facilities and cardiac specialists are scarce in this country and those surrounding and so much of the diagnosis we get is generalized. I think I still do not know my specific diagnosis till today. I feel pains in the chest on a regular basis - daily for many days and then it cools off for a short while. For a week and a half now, I have been experiencing shart pains in the chest in the heart region and shortness of breath at time. There is no qualified person to handle my problem.

I have been relying on the Internet for self-diagnosis without success until now that I came to know your site. I need help by way of connecting with a cardiologist - someone having similar problems and the experience to deal with it - with whom I could discuss my plight. If you are the person that can provide advice for me, please do help me.

I use a product that is called PLUS.  It has helped regulate my endorine system.  It is not  a drug but a nutrient.  I also use a glyconutrient product with antioxidents.  I have received great results. You can order it online just like I do at www.mannapages.com/greatnews

To your health,

Sincerely

Thanks for the advice. That article and all other related articles were the first I downloaded when I first saw this site. I have printed the pages into a small book and have read ALL articles: they are so rich with information. Liberia lacks such knowledge - experts not available - and so friends with similar medical problems have found delight in borrowing my "book" to get as informed about their conditions as possible. So thanks again for recommending the article.

I am not a cardiologist, but a cardiopulmonary physical therapist. You have your sequence of events in reverse. The palpitations were/are not the cause of your

cardiomyopathy, they are the result of it. Did you have an echocardiogram? That would be the only way to diagnosis whether you truly have hypertrophic (HCM) or a dilated cardiomyopathy.  In either case a beta blocker is the correct drug of choice.

If you have a dilated cardiomyopathy, CoQ10, D-Ribose and L-carnitine are essential

nutritional supplements you should try and obtain. Magnesium deficiency is very likely a contributing cause to the arrhythmias as well as other nutrient deficiencies from what I assume is a very sub-optimal diet. Hence, a high potency multiple vitamin/mineral product as well as a chelated magnesium are also essential. A mild intensity exercise program of walking, bicycling or swimming will also help strengthen your heart and improve your exercise ability as well as quality and probaby quantity of life.

Thanks, Randy, for your advice. I did an echocardiogram sometime back in 1999 and 2000 but it's all in French, which I do not master. Besides, it's been a good while ago now. I will comb the city to find where this can be done and will get the results over to you. I appreciate the concern and the expert advice; it shows how this community is one of the best I have come across! God bless you.

Ok.......that would be great. Post the results here if you can find a local hospital

that has an echocardiogram machine to do the test on you.

Thanks!

Randy
