During that time, that transition time I will never forget, I learned a lot. I learned how to do things for myself. That too is in a book. The steps that may sound so easy to perform but seemed to be a monumental task After a Stroke: 300 Tips for Making Life Easier by Cleo Hutton (Demos Medical Publishing, New York, NY) actually contains more than 300 useful tips stroke heroes can use everyday of their recovery.
Why I wrote these books is easy to answer. Because I know that there are many stroke heroes that will, and have, gone through the same healing process. If experience and medical insight help others on their journey to better health and independence then it is all worthwhile. If, by reading these books, it prevents a brain attack from occurring to even one individual it would be even better.
I didn't dream of being an author when I was a child. I just wanted to be a nurse and a mother. I am still both. But stroke happened too. My career changed to stroke awareness and recovery and I have dedicated the last 16 years to promoting healing through a positive outlook and providing encouragement for people living with the affects of stroke through www.CleoHutton.com
Today, I have two granddaughters. Two adorable children who only know me as a grandma with a "funny arm," a grandma that they can easily beat at a game of hopscotch or soccer, but a grandma that reads to them, and bakes cookies with them, and listens to them; just like other grandma's do.
We have all been affected by tragedies in life. A loved one may die, we may have health issues, we may deal with loneliness, disasters, depression, and the list goes on. The greatest strength comes from within every one of us - the strength to endure in the face of adversity. The thorns in life help us to discover the real beauty of the rose-ourselves. And that, one of a kind rose, is to be cherished and shared.
