Hi Cleo.  I am floored.  Admittedly, I have not paid much attention to the Medicare issue as it really doesn't effect me or my immediate family - though my parents are almost of age and they absolutely plan to use this.

Just to clarify, is this actually true, "Medicare allows only one physical per lifetime." ?  How can this be? There is no logic whatsoever to this.  I can understand if it is one per year, but once in an entire life?  What the heck is the point?

Anyone else out there have a direct experience with Medicare and/or there physicians as Cleo discusses?  We'd love to have you join the discussion here.

    All the best, sue (moderator)

Yes, Sue, Medicare allows only one physical per lifetime. Preventative care is more expensive as people, in general, are living longer. Most preventative care is NOT covered under Medicare.

The Medicare of today looks nothing like the bill that was passed in the 60's by President Johnson. Medicare was instituted to help our senior and disabled population. The physicians are trying to give quality care to their senior and disabled patients on Medicare by any means possible. But physicians are losing money when caring for Medicare only patients.

Not only is the Medicare mess keeping patients from being diagnoses and treated for the proper illnesses physically; but the Medicare mess also is not allowing needed mental health care for those covered only by Medicare by professional counselors.  Medicare does not reimburse for counseling from licensed professional counselors.  That unfortunate fact leaves millions of people of the baby boomer age without needed help.  At this time the bill to allow for payment for mental health care is before the house and senate,  Please encourage your Representatives and Senators to endorse this bill.

I had a stroke in Dec 2005 and none of situations Cleo talks about have happened to me or anyone in my support group. My doctor sees me every 4 months, no problem getting tests, and I can go to any pharmacy I want. I don't know what Cleo's real agenda is, but I suspect she is leaning toward some sort of universal heath care. No Thanks!
