Medicare is composed of hundreds of independent insurance companies that disburse Medicare payments to Medicare providers. Insurance companies are in business to make money. These companies make deals with pharmacology companies for the most cost-effective drugs available for their Medicare patients. But in doing so, their methods become highly questionable. Many insurance companies outsource to foreign countries for the best price for generic drugs. A very scary result may be perpetrated on the unsuspecting Medicare patient as the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) does not control or ensure the chemical compounds of medication imported from other countries. Therefore, we as patients are left to question, is the medication I receive through Medicare exactly the prescribed chemical compound, strength, and individual dosage that my physician has ordered? Can the label be 100% trustworthy? Where and when was my generic medication manufactured? Is the medication I am taking one of the many imported from foreign countries?
It gets worse. Today, many physicians, hospitals, and clinics are refusing to accept county distributed federal monies for Medical Assistance recipients as well. Therefore, if you are on Medicare with MA as your secondary insurance you will be billed only to Medicare insurance provider (if you are allowed to continue with your physician at all). This business decision is being made by health care providers across the country. For many years, it has been extremely difficult, if not impossible, for MA recipients to receive dental, vision, or specialty care. Now, these recipients are being deprived basic medical care as well. Free clinics are bursting at the seams in order to serve our most denied citizens. For many patients, this fall from insurance grace is a direct result of the inability to get other insurance because of a pre-existing condition.
Check out this link for the first bi-partisan bill introduced in Congress in over 60 years. Make sure your medication is of the highest quality. Demand preventative care through Medicare. Demand that other insurance can not drop you because of a pre-existing condition. Demand quality health care for all Americans. Let your voice be heard.
