Thursday, March 25, 2010 Bruno W asks

Q: I have 3 blocked arteries, 90% main heart artery, then a 80% & 70%.

I had a large tumor removed from my inside my heart, one and a half years ago. Three months before that, I had Cervical Spine Surgery and three months before the Cervical Spine Surgery, I had a total knee replacement. At present I have type 2 diabetis, COPD, and artery blockage in both upper legs. I'm not sure if I can handle another major surgery reght now. What are my chances if I decline to have this surgery??

Hi Bruno,

That is an excellent question. It sounds like you have been through a tremendous amount recently, but only your physician can answer your question...and even he/she cannot tell you for sure.  There may be medications that can help, but ultimately you may need the surgery.  Generally a physician does not recommend a surgery that they do not feel their patient can survive.  However, I encourage you to explain your concerns to your physician to determine other treatment options.

Best of luck,
