Q: My heart is "skipping" a beat, it will beat 4 or 5 times then just nothing

My heart is "skipping" a beat, it will beat 4 or 5 times then just nothing, and my chest feels tight in the center, not on either side, and I can feel it coming on. I am only 39 years old, have been to my Dr who did an EKG but of course in that short minute and a half nothing happened. At what point do I become concerned and go to the ER? Quick note my mother died of a heart attack at 39 as well....

Hi Dawn,

There's another heart test you can do which will give you a snapshot of your cardio-vascular system and will identify any dangerous irregular heart beats. It's called Digital Pulsewave Analysis (DPA for short). This is fairly new and most cardiologists don't offer it. Click here for a list of practioners in your area.

Also, you can get a second opinion by contacting Dr. Harry Elwardt.

Yours for Great Health,

Mike Farris

Have you received any other info on this? Mine has been doing the same. Its been doing it for the last month or so. My mother-in-law just recently was admitted to the ER with heart palpitations and I realized that is what is happening with me. It is just as you described above. To me it feels like that rush when you are on a roller coaster. I have monitored my pulse myself and have felt it very strongly skip beats. I am only 25 so I am embarrassed to go to the doctor, not to mention they most likel won't take me seriously.
