Q: can p.a.d. cause dementia in older patients?

my mother is 82 she has dimentia which was originally diagnosed as alzheimers but there is no regression to a child like state and no abnormal aggression which I'm familiar with seeing in alzheimers patients she has high blood pressure and has suffered from strokes and some sort of infection several years ago that required a spinal tap and months of intravenous antibiotics she was living out of state @ the time so I'm not sure the details but that is when she was diagnosed with early stage alzheimers she has lots of pain in her legs and hips is overweight by @ least 50 pounds so I thought maybe p.a.d. might be the problem she forgets things in less than 15 minutes @ times has trouble with long term memory also and gets very argumentative . If this cannot be p.a.d. do you have any suggestions ? She has a drs.appt. in a week or so but I'm not hopeful that they will tell us much. Thanks for your time.

sorry to hear about her condition, hows your mother today? my mother was given demerol and showed signs of dementia from it but after she was off it she got better the last time they gave it to her theres still symptoms of dementia even now. I wonder if they demaged her brain.  Please get back to me they say its vascular dementia but thats impossible said the vascular surgeon because her blockage was in her legs and never had any problems with upper part of her body etc.
