Q: Can Amlodipine cause low sodium and chloride levels in blood/urine samples?

During my recent physical my blood/urine test showed a dangerously low NaCl level. My doctor took me off of the HCT part of my Benicar and another suggested salt tablets. I developed endema (feet and lower legs). I have been trying to learn if there is a relationship between Amlodipine and my low NaCl level. I know that Amlodipine can be a cause of endema.

Hi Tritter,

Your pharmacist would be a good resource to discuss whether or not there is a connection between Amlodipine and low NaCl levels. Here's a link to information that may be useful:

Lisa Nelson's suggestion gave me a duh! moment.  Why didn't I think about it?  I'll ask the next time I pick up my meds.  Thank you Lisa.
