Am I going to lose the extra fluid after a prostheteic valve and aorta replacement?

Mendy Manley
06/30/08

I'm a 34 y/o female who is overweight and a prior smoker. Almost 2 weeks ago I had my valve and aorta replaced due to a leaky valve and a 6.5 cm anneurysm on my aorta. I still haven't gotten down to my pre-surgery weight. Before I was on 200mg of Lasix per day and also 200 mg of another fluid pill called Spironolactone. Now for fluid control I only take 40 mg of Lasix 2x daily. I have no known kidney, liver, or thyroid problems?

Is this enough fluid pills?

How long will it take to lose this fluid?

Will the prosthetic valve last my entire life?

Will the carbon aorta last my entire life?

Is the edema a side effect of the leaky valve?

Thanks for any help you can give me.
