I am a 50 year old male. I smoked for 20 years but quit about 12 years ago. I had a acute pain in my throat emanating up my neck that lasted about an hour. It felt like being strangled but I had no problem breathing. This was the most painful and stressful situation I've ever had happen. This was about 3 years ago. For about a year after this I was not able to go up a flight of stairs without a severe pain in my throat. It feels very much like acid reflux but I am pretty sure that's not the cause. I went to the Dr. and had 3 different stress tests done. The first was a simple treadmill walking test. Heart looks good, no problem. Second was a treadmill with a nuclear injection. They took all kinds of photos of my heart and still no heart problem. A year later I complained to my Dr. again and he sent me to an ENT DR. He found that I have some damage to my esophagus due to reflux. I was put on Prolosec for a short period of time and that solved the heart burn I suffered from, but the neck pain continues. I had a third stress test done with nuclear and photos and still my heart shows good. It pumps at 50%. Perfect! The problem still continues on. The only thing I've really noticed is that it only comes on with activity. I walk fast and within 2 to 3 minutes my throat is at full pain. Here's the weird part, if I just tough it out the pain actually subsides a lot. I have no leg, arm or chest pain and no real shortness of breath to speak of. Can you offer any suggestions? Thank you for your consideration. Tom Wilson
