Q: Do I need to worry about a leaky valve? I passed out and stopped breathing briefly while out.

I ended up in the hosp. for a couple days. The doctor said I have a leaky valve but didn't seem concerned and didn't seem to think it caused my passing out.I don't have swollen ankles or any chest pain but I do get light headed sometimes when I exercise. I did have a incident about 4 years ago when I almost passed out while walking but got into a building and sat down and got a drink and rested for a while. I sometimes get light headed and have to stop when out walking with my boyfriend and can't keep up as fast as him.He has to stop and give me a break.Do I have to worry about exercising? Or is exercise actually better if I do it. Why the excessive urination symtom which I do have and have had a long time. How does this apply? Oh I did pass a stress test a year ago but the doctor has ordered another one.

Hi Beth,

Here is a link that may be helpful: What is a Leaky Valve?  You should speak with your physician about exercising and you should follow up with him/her regarding your continued concerns.

Thanks for the advise Karen. I did check out that web page. Very helpful and have been following up with my doctor. They don't think the leaky valve is anything to worry about at this time but don't seem to have any explanation for what happened to me. I guess sometimes they just don't know. I just hope it never happens again.
