Q: I'm a 49-year-old woman with high cholesterol. My dad was diagnosed with heart disease in his 50's. I had a cardiac stress test about 6 years ago, which came back normal. I've been having palpitations

for over a year now, and recently they seem to be increasing in number. I had a holter moniter test last year and it showed some palpitations, but nothing serious. Should I have another stress test done, and if so, when? Also, a bone density scan showed I have osteopenia. I read that women with high cholesterol shouldn't take calcium supplements because of an increased risk of heart attack. My total cholesterol is 210, and my LDL is 139. My triglycerides have gone down to 144 with 20 mg. of simvistatin daily. Should I be concerned?

You need to get to your doctor as soon as you are able. You may have a blockage in your heart. You really need to push for a new stress test. My husband just did this and had to have two stints put in! He had 98 percent blockage in one of the arteries.  His stress test was not 100 percent  because the doctor who did the test said he was not sure but decided to have him see a cardiologist. He recovered and is feeling great.  This first doctor, plus my husband who pushed for this added years to his life!Best of luck!
