Q: Heart pain when I sleep

I am a caucasian female in my late forties. I do smoke. I have a history of anxiety, and thyroid issue. I do take synthroid. My problem is when I sleep at night, my heart pain wakes up me and its like my heart skips a beat, then it flutters or resets itself, and then its fine, and I am able to go back to sleep. My husband says that I snore as well. Should I make an appointment with my GP or a cardiologist?

Hi Grandma2742,

Yes, I recommend scheduling an appointment with your primary care doctor. You may be a candidate for a sleep study to rule out (or diagnose) sleep apnea. Another possibility is acid reflux issues at night. I recommend discussing your symptoms at your doctors appointment to determine what tests are needed to diagnose the issue and determine appropriate treatment.

All the best,
