Tracye,
A heart murmur is a sound heard through a stethoscope. It is caused by the flow of blood within the heart, usually as it crosses one of the valves. Murmurs vary in location and intensity and sometimes can signify underlying heart problems. Many murmurs are "physiologic" which means they are have no underlying significance and are considered normal or acceptable. The only way to find out is with a visit to her doctor. A physician can best decide what the cause is, and if necessary, decide if any further evaluation is required.
