alkie,   Micardis (generic telmisarten) is an angiotensin II receptor blocker used in the treatment of high blood pressure as well as some cardiac problems.  This drug blocks the production of a powerful hormone that works on the kidney to retain water and salts in the blood.  By blocking this hormone, more water and salt is released through the kidney, thereby lowering blood pressure.  It also dilates blood vessels which helps to lower the pressure.   Micardis is available in two forms:  Micardis, by itself does not contain a diuretic.  However, it is also available as Micardis- HCT which does contain the diuretic hydrochlorthiazide.   Check your prescription bottle and look for the HCT after the micardis.   I hope this has been helpful.   Martin Cane, M.D.
