Sudden onset chest pain in the middle of the night during sleep. Wakes me up and lasts 5 to 30 minutes. The pain is under the sternum/chestbone and pain radiates to fill the chest area. Sometimes ribcage is sore for a day or two. Have had this for 40+ years. Over the years, numerous doctors and testing resulting in "nothing wrong". I am male, exercise everyday, eat very well, rarely drink alcohol, and not overweight. During attack I get up and walk around until it resides. I try taking nitroglycerin with some relief or drink some water. These chest pains occur in clusters and cycles, usually a few every 4 to 12 months. Sometimes I won't have one for a year and by then the nitroglycerin has dried up. From my own research came up with variant or Prinzmetals angina.
