Q: My 84 year old Mother takes 150mg of Karvea per day to keep her BP stable. Previosly she has taken

My 84 year old Mother, who had part of her left lung removed 3 years ago due to Lung Cancer, has episodes where her BP can drop to 100/59 Pulse 93, for a few days giving her headaches, light headedness and a danger of falling. Also it can raise to a BP of approx 165.

She cannot take Minax and is more stable on just 150mg of Karvea yet she still has these episodes.

She has gained weight and isn't always as regular with her meds and breakfast as she should be.

Can you help?

Kathy

Hi Kathy,

Making diet and lifestyle changes to promote a lower blood pressure will increase the effectiveness of her blood pressure medication.  Also, discuss modifying her medication dosage with her physician to determine if a different level offers better control.

All the best,
