Q: Close blood pressure numbers and low pulse.

I am 34 years old.  My blood pressure has run 99/60 since I was in my teens, with only slight variations in the numbers.  My pulse has never been below 90.  I have been having some discomfort the last week that varies in position.  I have had an aching in my left arm just above the elbow, lower right abdominal pain, chest pain, or abdominal pain that shoots from the right side of my abdomen to my left shoulder.  I have always had a very strong pulse, but the last couple of days, it has only been detectable in my neck.  My last blood pressure reading was 99/80 with a pulse of 51.  Is this something I should be concerned about?

Hi LilBit173254,

I encourage you to see your physician as soon as possible or go to the emergency room if the pain still persists.  Only a physician can tell you if what you are experiencing is a heart attack or if the pain is from something else, but it should be addressed.

Best of luck,

Monica M. Skidmore, MS, RD, LDN

First of all, I want to thank you for responding.  I apologize for taking so long.  I followed your advice and saw a physician.  I do have a problem.  The lower part of my heart is not getting enough oxygen.  At one point in my stress test, it was getting almost no oxygen at all.  My next step is to have a stress echo done, which is already scheduled, to find out what is causing the problem.  I now keep nitroglycerine tablets with me at all times.  Thank you again so much for responding.  I am a very stubborn person, so if it weren't for you, I may not have seen a doctor at all until it was to late.
