My husband had a lot of labs done recently and had multiple abnormal results-I need assistance.

my husband recently had his cholesterol checked and it is off the charts, ldl is high as well, and hdl is extremely low.  2 out of 4 liver enzymes are elevated and have been for a while, he has hypothyroidism(found out recently), and kidneys are showing early signs of failure.  He is 26 years old and we've been actively pursuing this and will see a nephrologist for the first time shortly.  I'm a nurse and am extremely concerned.  He is not over weight and eats extremely clean.  He is a bodybuider thus he intakes large quantities of protein daily.  24 hr. urine showed protein at 11,000!  Could all of these issues be related to one condition?

Hi Concerned wife,

 

Only 26!  What a scary situation.  I'm not able to shed light on whether everything is linked to one condition.  It's likely the elevated protein intake is connected to a decrease in kidney function.  Here are a few links you may want to review:
