Leftyaeh,   Thanks for your question.  Aggrenox is a combination of aspirin and long acting dypiridamole (persantine).  Both of these drugs work on small particles in the blood stream called platelets which are key to forming clots.  Each drug works on a different mechanism, thereby making clot formation within blood vessels less likely.  Aggrenox is taken twice a day.   As of now, aggrenox is not available as a generic.   It is possible to take aspirin and generic persantine as a substitute, but the persantine is not long acting and should be taken at least three times a day.  You should discuss this with your doctor and if he agrees, he can advise you on the dosage of each component.   I hope this has been helpful.   Martin Cane, M.D.
