Q: low cholesterol low hdl

my total cholrsterol is 126 ldl 70 hdl 32 vldl 24 tg122.Is my profile normal even with lower hdl.My doctor says it is very healthy as the ratios of components is important and it is very healthy

Hi A S Hari,

 

I encourage you to take steps to raise your HDL level.  The American Heart Association recommends an HDL greater than 40 and ideally greater than 60.  Here are two posts, one with tips to increase HDL and one gives more input on the risk associated with a low HDL.

Your doctoe  is  right.  all  your  components  are  under normal  range.

 

To keep  your cholesterol  always under  normal  range follow  the  list  below

 

1. Practice some light exercise

2. Keep your weight normal;

3. Avoid eating saturated fats,

4. Eat at least 2 servings of foods containing soluble fibers daily.

5. Beware that refined carbohydrates.

6. You should know that eating ½ raw onion daily will raise hdl cholesterol by 30%

7. Avoid drinking alcohol.
