Q: I stopped taking super vitamin B supplements because I began to have this odd "vitaminy" body odor.

It's as if an odd smell is exuding from my pores - and only some people besides myself seem to notice it.  But it drove me crazy.  So, now I am taking Vitamin D and E supplements with zinc again, and yikes, the medicine-like smell is back.  I don't know if it's my breath, or a smell from my pores (like when you eat too much garlic).  But, what could this be?

Hi Davisll,

Body odor in reaction to vitamin supplements is not typical, but everyone is different. Also, B vitamins are sometimes used to alleviate body odor, so especially unusualy for the vitamin B supplements you were taking to be the culprit. I recommend discussing with your physician.

As an FYI, as your body metabolizes products it gives off odors as a way of eliminating waste products. Metabolism imbalance can lead to strong body odors.

All the best,
