To boost your HDL cholesterol, review and implement these Tips on How to Raise your HDL. If your doctor wants your LDL lower, focus on limiting your Saturated fat intake and on increasing your soluble fiber intake.
Your doctors are right about quitting smoking. Here is a link to Why Quitting Smoking is Good for your Heart? and it offers some tips for quitting that I have listed below.
