Q: left ventricular distolic dysfunction have anything to do with a persons blood pressure going low?

I have the above diagnoses.  Every now and then my BP will go low like 108/54 and when this happens I feel light headed with movement and feel as if I am a dim room.  Is there any connection with these feelings and the left ventricular distolic dysfuction?  I have been told by my doctor that a dystolic reading of 54 is not low.  It is to me if I feel it is low and I am having symptoms that something is wrong.

The job of the left ventricle of the heart is to pump blood around the entire body.  When there is dysfunction, the muscle becomes weak and may not be able to meet the metabolic demands of the body.  This condition is known as congestive heart failure (CHF) and can cause low blood pressure.  In addition, some of the medications used to treat CHF can also lower the blood pressure.  If you encounter symptoms then your doctor may need to make some adjustments in your medications.

Hi Virginia - and thanks for your question.  I thought you might be interested in reading about low blood pressure.  Dr. Bill Davis is an expert on our High Blood Pressure site and wrote an article, "Can Blood Pressure Be Too Low?".  He talks about what drives blood pressure, what can make it go "haywire", and what to do about it.

As for your heart condition, you may want to look at our material on heart disease for further information.

Hope this helps, all the best, sue

Hello,Im having alot of the same problems, their is 1 thing that showed a mildly abnormal Hoykiness Versus Septal motion, what ever that means,an X-ray showed the central Pulmonary Arteries are enlarged possibly due to Chronic Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension,I have times of chest pains the same exact symptoms you have but my blood presure 1 day was 98 over 59 and pulse was 118 later that day my BP went up to 137/72 heart rate was 98 so mine keeps dropping and I get feling dizzy, blackouts where it feels weird everything goes black and when it stops at times i'll find myself if i had been standing or walking in the house that im down on 1 or both knees it's like someone turns off the lights and then i come to years ago I was told of having Cardio Myapathy,it is a condition where the Heart Muscles are weak that the Heart dosent fully pump out all the blood needed for your body so the heart stay's enlarged due to the blood not being fully pumped out of the Heart.I would go Directly and set an App. up with a Heart Dr.You may be having similar problems as me??Or it could be something else,I was even loosing my balance alot, and some day's I'd sit up in bed in the morning after sleeping and right away feel weird like a tingling and numbness sensation from head to toe, then feel a slight bit dizzy,so i'd sit there till the dizzyness semed to pass stand up and at times as soon as I stood up I'd fall over into the wall like I had lost my Balance. Please for your sake dont wait, and get to a Heart Dr.Sadly my VA DR.ignored everything so im going outside to see aHeart DR.on July 2nd I also have alot of Severe Fatique, and my BP pressre at times bottoms out and I have a really high pulse most everyday, even sitting still.Good Luck  Jim
