Monday, December 28, 2009 Nina Graves asks

Q: How come my Father is still tired from his CHF he had two weeks ago?

My Father-in-Law had Congestive Heart Failure (Heart attack) about two weeks ago.

He is 80 years old and is now on Oxygen 24/7 and on a low Sodium and Diabetes diet.

He is still very tired and has no energy. How can I help him get his energy back? Or is this

a sign of another attack to come?

Hi Nina Graves,

You may be interested in reading the information in this link.

What is Congestive Heart Failure?

The links within explain symptoms, life with CHF, treatments, what to expect, etc. I also suggest speaking with your Father-in-law's cardiologist to see what type of activity he thinks is appropriate for him just 2 weeks after his attack and now reliant on Oxygen.  Also, if you think he may be having another heart attack or increased fluid retention (monitor his weight closely), I suggest taking him to the ER.

Best of luck,
