Q: Grandmother in medically induce coma following heart attack

My grandmother was found unconcious on her floor by volunteers that come to help her. When examined at the hospital, the doctors determined that she had another heart attack (has had several bypasses and stints), a touch of pneumonia, UTI and partial kidney failure. They placed her in a medically induced coma since she needed breathing tubes. The respirator is now breath 100% for her and they are nto sure when this will change. Her blood pressure (usually high) keeps dropping low and then going back to normal. She is 88 years old; what are her chances of coming out of this?

Hi jxjb.garcia:

I am sorry to hear about your Grandma, I know this must be a rough time for you and your family. It is best that you visit the physician on your Grandma's case about her prognosis. He/She should be able to answer many of your questions and concerns and hopefully help ease some of your worries. In this situation, actually many situations, your question is unknown and is case individualized. I am sorry I can't answer that for you.

Best Regards,

Tara, RN
