Hi,   You can contract endocarditis from IV drug use. Endocarditis is inflammation of heart tissue. This is frequently caused by an infection in the heart and commonly involves the valves of the heart. With IV drug use, the tricuspid valve is frequently affected which is on the right side of the heart. This occurs since bacteria is introduced into the blood stream with IV drug use. Other serious complications of IV drug use include contracting viruses such as HIV and Hepatitis C.  As a result, IV drug use is an extremely dangerous and risky activity.
