Tonia,   There are many things that can cause chest and back pain, and a visit to your primary care physician would probably be the most effective method of finding the source of your pain.   Chest pain as a result of a cardiac (heart) problem does not typically present in the manner that you are describing. Typical cardiac pain from coronary disease, called angina, usually becomes worse with exercise and improves with rest. Another source of cardiac pain is something called an aortic dissection, which can also cause some back pain. This occurs when there is a tear in the inside of the aorta, which is the main artery coming out of your heart. Again, this usually is not a chronic form of pain and does not correlate well with your description. However, it is important to speak with your doctor regarding your pain so that he/she can best determine the management.   Chest pain most commonly is the result of muscular strain or inflammation, which can also cause back pain. This is usually treated with anti-inflammatory medicine and exercise.   Chest and back pain can also stem from an infection or infiltrate of your lungs.   -HealthSupport
