Q: Can an ICD detect if there is drug usage in the person it is placed?

A pacemaker/defibulator is what I mean and drug usage being more specific to street drugs.

Hi blj59b,

Here's a link to a patient guide on pacemakers:

In general, a pacemaker detect heart beats that are too slow and signals the heart to beat when necessary. I recommend discussing with your physician the impact street drugs may have on pacemaker function.
