Q: Cardiomyopathy diagnosis how serious is this?

my husband is a 54 year african american, who believed he was in good health, starting having some angina, and was tiried, had a echo and ekg, was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy, had a sleep study found to have a severe case of sleep apenea never has had any blood pressure problems, diabetes, exercised regulary,

Dr. took him off his job as a police officer indefinately. Heart was pumping at 35 stated his heart is weak somewhere between mild and severe. Put on Coreg lowest amount Beta blocker. After sleep study he is using his machine on a consistent basis. We are not certain about what my husband can or cannot do, he can do moderate exercise such as walking, he is becoming depressed, because he is basically home just waiting. As a family we are not real sure what his recovery chances are. my mother died at age 60 from dialated cardiomyopathy. We kind of feel like we need a second opinion but want to wait until 3 month echo to see how heart is recoving.  Our question is should we be doing more, and we are not sure what the survival rate is. Our doctor is saying that this is wait and see, if it is viral it may be nothing he can do. We  just don't understand or cannot see what we should be doing or looking for. Please help!
