rockzi,   Thanks for your question.    Fibromyalgia is a chronic inflammatory disease that is manifested by diffuse muscle pain and tenderness, fatigue, sleep difficulties, joint pain, problems with urination, and many more symptoms.  The majority of patients affected are female.   There are several theories on the cause of fibromyalgia, including an infectious agents, genetic predisposition, and environmental factors.  Another chronic inflammatory disease, Sarcoidosis, has been implicated as a cause in patients that develop fibromyalgia.    Fortunately, there is treatment available, such as Lyrica, a medication approved by the FDA for the treatment of fibromyalgia.   To date, there is no definitive cause, and a genetic link has not been established.  There are several ongoing research studies that will, hopefully, shed more light on this chronic disease.   I hope this has been helpful.   Martin Cane, M.D.
