Monday, April 26, 2010 FRM asks

Q: Heart attack or what?

I am 69 years old.  My mother died of a stroke at age 75 but had had heart problems prior to that.

I woke up from a very restless sleep at 4 am on 4/5/10.  I was hurting all over but mainly in my shoulders.  I got up and walked about 45 feet to get a drink of water and the room started to go black.  I sat down and avoided passing out, but I became very sweaty and shakey.  I sat for about 15 minutes then took an Pain Relief PM (acetaminophen & diphenhydramine), went back to bed, and slept until noon.  When I woke up I was very tired but the other symptons had disappeared.

Was this possibly a heart attack?  Should I see my doctor even though it has been three weeks?

Thanks you,

FRM

Hi FRM,

I encourage you to see your physician or go to the emergency room as soon as possible, especially if you have any lingering symptoms or a recurrence.
