Q: abrupt rise in "bad" cholesterol level

on 5/29/08 my total cholesterol level was 202. LDL 104, HDL 89. On 8/15/08 total cholesterol was 306 LDL 181. What on earth would account for this rise when I have not changed eating or exercising habits one bit. In fact I began eating more fish and walking more. I am 59 and not overweight at all. I walk 4 mi/day. What could account for this abrupt rise? I am now on lipitor since August. thank you!
