I have just discovered your web site and I love it. The nutritional information is succinct and practical. You make the relationship between heart health and nutrients so simple, even my husband will understand it. I have been struggling for decades with untreated "subclinical" hypothyroidism (i.e., I had all the symptoms but my blood tests always came back "low normal" and I was refused treatment). After 30 years of this, I developed a goiter, and I just underwent thyroidectomy (they preserved the parathyroids) this week because it had become increasingly bothersome over the past few years, putting a lot of pressure on my larynx, trachea, and esophagus. It was about 6" or so across my neck with several large nodules. I do not know any doctor who will prescribe Armour (desiccated thyroid) instead of straight T4 (they say its strength is inconsistent and unreliable), but I think all of your cholesterol, iodine, and hypothyroidism information will help me put together a total health management plan that will finally help me lose weight, have energy, get my cholesterol under control, and have a healthy grandma-hood (I just turned 60). I have read the topics on HDL, iodine, and triglycerides. What else do you recommend for someone without a thyroid gland? Are there any "unknown unknowns" that you know about that I should be aware of? Thanks.
